Area volunteer fire companies were kept busy over the last few days.  Their quick response and decisive actions kept three fires from becoming more serious.

            On Sunday afternoon, at 3:25, Red Hill Fire Company was called to the scene of a camper on fire in Graber Alley near Seventh Street in the borough.  The first responders arrived and found that the fire had extended into a nearby garage prompting

the call for additional fire companies. 

            Firefighters were quick to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading farther into the garage, however, the camper was completely destroyed.

            According to Red Hill Fire Marshal John Lehr, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.  He estimated the damage to be between $125,000 and $150,000.

            Responders were on the scene until around 4:15 p.m.

            At 1:12 on Tuesday afternoon, the Red Hill Fire Company was dispatched to a reported building fire in the 3200 block of Miller Road in Upper Hanover Township.  Smoke from that fire could be seen for several miles.

            The volunteer firefighters arrived and found a garage, located about 75 feet from a house, burning.  The fire extended into a nearby storage pile and about 50 feet into a wooded area.

            Firefighters quickly contained the woods fire from extending further and kept the fire in the burning garage from extending into an adjoining section of that building.

            Water from tanker units was used in the remote area of the township.

            Fire companies were on the scene until 3:45 p.m.

            On Wednesday, at 10 a.m., the Red Hill Fire Company was called out for the report of a car fire in the 3600 block of Geryville Pike with the danger of spreading into a nearby wooded area.

            Again, the volunteers were quick to respond and extinguish the burning vehicle and keep the fire from spreading into the wooded area.

            Firefighters and fire police cleared the scene around 11 a.m.

            Nobody was hurt in any of the incidents.

            In addition to Red Hill, other fire companies responding or dispatched to the above incidents included East Greenville, Green Lane, Milford Township, New Hanover, Pennsburg, Quakertown, Souderton, Trumbauersville, and Upper Frederick.

            An emergency medical service unit from Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance responded to the Red Hill and Miller Road scenes as well.  An emergency medical unit from Freedom Valley Medical Rescue unit also responded to the Miller Road call.
