Police Seek Suspect in New Berlinville Convenience Store Robbery
Written by Staff Report
2023-03-01

Law enforcement officials are searching for a man accused of robbing a convenience store Monday in New Berlinville. Rodney L. Moyer, 45, formerly of Colebrookdale Township, is wanted by the Eastern Berks Regional Police Department

Rodney L. Moyer

on multiple felony charges, including robbery, kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and misdemeanor theft. Moyer should not be approached or contacted by the public, according to the social media post.

Police were dispatched at 8:26 a.m. on Monday to the Circle K, located at 1255 North Reading Ave., for the report of a robbery and kidnapping. An adult male victim then reported that he was approached in the parking lot by a white male who indicated that he had a gun.

The suspect did not display a weapon. Police are not sure if he possessed one or not.

According to law enforcement officials, the suspect directed the victim to withdraw a sum of money from the ATM and threatened to shoot him and others if he did not comply. The suspect also told the victim that he was to drive him to Philadelphia.

The suspect followed the victim into the store and stood next to him while he withdrew the money. During the ensuing drive, the victim – at the direction of the suspect – stopped at another ATM and withdrew additional money. Again, the suspect followed the victim into the store and stood next to him during the withdrawal, according to the Feb. 27 post.

Later during the trip, the suspect exited the vehicle and walked away. The victim then contacted police, according to information made public by the department.

Local authorities filed criminal charges in the case against Moyer on Monday in the Boyertown court of District Judge Gloria Stitzel. It lists Matthew Merry as the arresting officer.

Anyone who witnessed any part of the incident, or knows of Moyer's whereabouts, is requested to contact the Eastern Berks Regional Police Department at 610-369-3050 or through the Berks County Dispatch at 1800-372-9111 or by dialing 911. Callers can provide anonymous tips at 1-877-373-9913.
