When to Sell
2023-02-22

Ban Books, don't ban books.  Ban some books, don't ban some books. Don't allow certain books to be mandated student reading.  Allow all books to be read, regardless of the reader's age.

Take certain books off the library shelves, leave everything on the shelves because it's the reader's choice.

Parents should have a say in what books their children can read, parents shouldn't have a say.in what books they can read.

Now, we have another dilemma, Puffin Books has brought in sensitivity experts to change language that they seem offensive.  The political correct makeover of books authored by Roald Dahl for young readers includes removing the words "fat" or "ugly" from the tomes and making the Oompa Loompas of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" gender neutral.  Mrs. Trunchbull, the villain in "Matilda" was described as a "most formidable female."  She will now be known as "The most formidable woman."

According to a spokesperson, the move is being overseen by the Inclusive Minds group who were described as a collective for people who are passionate about inclusion and accessibility in children's literature.

Is it a good move or a not-so-good move? Should we be rewriting vast swaths of a writer's work in this way, purely to appease modern day readers?  You may want to replace a word or words and you may end up inserting a whole new idea of the author's work.

There are those who argue that literature is meant to be surprising and provocative, and by removing any reference that might cause offense you could be diluting the power of storytelling.

The debates and arguments will go on for some time before it is settled.  Everyone has an opinion to express.

When the final answers to all of the arguments is finally settled, one thing is sure.  The value of the unaltered books will skyrocket, with some signed copies selling for thousands of dollars.

A survey of 2,000 Americans, taken in December of 2022.  Showed that 43 percent of them were looking for challenged or banned books to read.  Seventy-three percent opposed book bans in general.

So, you may want to save your unaltered versions of the books and keep checking the online stores for price changes.

When it hits your number, Sell.
