The plan to replace the bridge on Main Street in Pennsburg faces another delay. The state agency responsible for completing the project has targeted March 13 for the close of Main Street, according to council President Diane Stevens.

            During Tuesday's council meeting, Stevens said crews preparing the scene informed officers from the Upper Perk Police Department of the new schedule. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is required to put up detour signs two weeks in advance of the road closure, according to the council president. Stevens claimed that the agency is having difficulty getting the two temporary traffic lights, according to a text received one day earlier.

            A PennDOT spokesperson confirmed the new timeline in an email message received Wednesday morning. Robyn Briggs wrote that the agency planned on disclosing the detour route to the public on Wednesday or Thursday.

            In January, Member Wayne Stevens announced Tuesday's council meeting that that PennDOT's tentative plans to close the road between 8th and 11th streets on Feb. 17 remain.  However, access to businesses along Main St., from 8^th Street to 10^th Street, will remain.

            Council held a ceremonial swearing in ceremony for its newest officer Tuesday. Thomas Sally has been working for the Upper Perk Police Department since Feb. 4, according to Diane Stevens.

            The department is one shift short of 24-hour coverage, according to the council president. The new officer, who spent two years working for the Philadelphia Police Department and one year with the Hatfield Township Police Department, is the son of Thomas A. Sally, commander of the Red Hill VFW Post 5954.

            In other news, council agreed to appoint Administrative Manager Lisa Hiltz and Matt White, a member of the borough's parks and recreation committee, to a Green Lane Park Steering Committee. According to Diane Stevens, county officials want input from the surrounding communities on how the property should be utilized.

            The members also voted to spend $1,350 to remove a walnut tree on borough property. They accepted an estimate from CS Kalb to take down the tree next to the Veterans memorial close to the Municipal building, located at 76 W. 6th Street.

            Municipal officials recently swore in John Balmer as a new member of the Pennsburg Volunteer Fire Company's Fire Police, according to Diane Stevens. Balmer previously served as chief of the Green Lane Fire Company.

            Council voted to approve the dates for the Pennsburg Fire Company's upcoming coin toss fund drive. It will be held April 12 and Aug. 26.

            In January, the Upper Perk police department responded to 614 total incidents. That includes 227 calls for public service, 93 vehicle investigations, 80 traffic details. The officers issued 69 citations and 39 warnings. They made four arrests, responded to three reportable accidents, two non-reportable accidents and issued one parking ticket or warning.

            The department responded to seven reported thefts, four incidents of forgery/fraud/identity theft, three trespassing incidents; two incidents each of assault/harassment/stalking, motor vehicle thefts and public drunkenness/disorderly conduct and one sex offense, according to information provided by Chief Joe Adam.
