Rosenberger Helps Panthers Win Inaugural Perkiomen Basketball Tournament Title
Written by Bradley Schlegel, Staff Writer

Bobby Rosenberger views his role on Perkiomen School's National basketball team as a facilitator, and the Quakertown resident's versatility helped the team capture the inaugural Perkiomen Basketball Tournament title over the weekend.

The 6-foot-5 senior post player teamed with classmates Thomas Haugh and

iomen School.

Preist Ryan to lead the Panthers (11-2) to three straight victories at the Hollenbach Athletic Center. Rosenberger averaged 12 points per game.  "I feel like I can give the team whatever it needs to be successful," Rosenberger said.

Head coach Thomas Baudinet expressed his pleasure with the team's development but said it needs to minimize turnovers.  "We need to do a better job taking care of the basketball," Baudinet said. "Against the better competition, we won't be able to get away with that."

Haugh – a 6'9, 200-pound power forward who has signed to play at the University of Florida – averaged 22.6 points during their wins. Ryan, a 6'6 swing player from Pittsburgh, delivered 19.6 points per game during victories over Spire Academy (Ohio), Scotland Academy Red and Dynastie Institute, from Canada.

As the only returning players from last year's team, Baudinet built the current squad around the trio. He described Haugh, a native of south central Pennsylvania, as the linchpin. He said Rosenberger and Ryan, both of whom are averaging approximately 18 points per game, have played a major role in its success.

"They are all able to do many things on the floor," Baudinet said.

The Panthers rotation currently features eight players who receive significant playing time, according to the coach. He utilized their entire roster during the tournament.

Perkiomen School opened with a 90-84 victory over Spire Academy (Ohio) on Friday. Haugh scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half.

Ryan delivered 12 of his 22 points in the second half to help his team overcome a seven-point halftime deficit. Rosenberger added 16 points.

Trey Lieb added nine points, and Brant Byers scored all of his nine points in the second half for Perkiomen School, which trailed 52-45 at halftime.

In the tournament's semifinal round, the Panthers rolled to a 102-65 victory over a substitute team from Scotland Campus. Haugh poured home a game-high 30 points, delivering 15 points in each half, helping him earn tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

Ryan scored 21 points. Brant Byers finished with 11 points for Perkiomen School.

In the tournament title game, Perkiomen School posted a 78-58 win over the Dynastie Institute, located in Toronto. Four players scored in double figures.

Ryan, a senior from Tarentum, delivered a team high 16 points. Rosenberger and Haugh each posted 15 points.

Macon Emory, a junior from Devon, scored 13. Brant Byers, a junior from Chambersburg, contributed nine off the bench for the Panthers, who utilized a 14-2 run midway through the second half to secure their fourth consecutive victory.

Byers delivered six points and Rosenberger added five to help the team extend a 49-43 advantage.  "I felt like we were really challenged in two of our games," Baudinet said.

Rosenberger spurned interest from the U.S. Naval Academy and West Chester University to sign with Saint Francis University in western Pennsylvania. Baudinet noted that Rosenberger's versatility, he can play the shooting guard and both forward positions, is a good match in the Division I Northeast Conference.

"I really liked the coaches and the atmosphere," Rosenberger said. "I'm looking forward to four great years."
