The fate of Grandview Speedway appears to have been paused, or has come to an end, at least for the 2023 racing season.
At the Thursday night meeting of the Washington Township Board of Supervisors, it was announced that CoPart, a vehicle auction company, withdrew its appeal to the township's zoning hearing board.
A few months back CoPart made an undisclosed financial offer to purchase Grandview Speedway located at 43 Passmore Road in the village of Bechtelsville. Grandview Speedway is a 1/3 mile auto racetrack that has been providing racing for the last 60 years.
Previously, CoPart applied for a zoning amendment to the township code enforcement officer, LTL Consultants. The code enforcement officer denied CoPart's application. CoPart amended its application to the code enforcement officer that omitted equipment and trailer sales that were inconsistent with the township's ordinances.
The township code enforcement officer denied CoPart's application a second time.
CoPart appealed the zoning officer decision to the Washington Township Zoning Hearing Board. Ultimately, CoPart withdrew its appeal to the zoning hearing board. So, there will be no zoning hearing board decision on the matter.
Washington Township officials are not aware at present what plans, if any, the owner of Grandview Speedway and CoPart have considering any transfer of the property. However, later Thursday evening, Grandview Speedway posted on their Facebook account and invitation to Opening Day 2023 with the event dates to be announced.
