School board meetings in the Upper Perkiomen School District are scheduled to resume at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in advance of the start of the 2021-22 school year. The members are expected to address the district's health and safety plan and student transportation. The meeting will be held in person and streamed online.
The board will consider an action item approving a revised health and safety plan. The members will also receive a presentation on the proposal prior to the vote, according to the language of the regular meeting agenda, posted on the district's website.
The presentation and discussion could cover issues related to mask wearing, handwashing and respiratory etiquette, the need to maintain healthy facilities, including improving ventilation; contact tracing in combination with isolation and quarantine in collaboration with state and local health departments; diagnostic and screening testing as well as efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to school communities, according to information provided in a document from the Pennsylvania Department of Education attached to the meeting agenda.
Additionally, there will be an update on the situation related to the transportation and student drop-off/pick-up issues at the Upper Perkiomen 4th & 5th Grade Center, located at 510 Jefferson St. The board is also expected to take action on a motion to repeal and replace the district's class rank policy.
The agenda's personnel report includes the potential approval of numerous positions. The list includes Michael DeCarolis, named the new boys head varsity basketball coach.
DeCarolis, the former head coach at Quakertown High School and Penn State Lehigh Valley, posted a celebratory message on his Twitter account on July 12 that he had been chosen for the job.
The meeting will also be livestreamed. For more information visit upsd.org.
