A Green Lane man wanted on a warrant from a Red Hill court was apprehended on Monday on Franklin Street in Quakertown. Andrew James Sponsler, 33, of Lumber Street, ran from an officer attempting to arrest him. He was tackled from behind and taken into custody.

            After the incident, Quakertown police charged Sponsler with resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia in the Richland Township court of District Judge Lisa Gaier, according to information posted on a state judicial website.

            Sponsler was scheduled to begin serving a 90-day sentence in Montgomery County that same day.

            Red Hill District Judge Maureen Coggins issued the arrest warrant for Sponsler who failed to report to Montgomery County jail as the result of pleading guilty on Dec. 1, 2020 to driving with a suspended license following an Aug. 25 traffic stop in East Greenville. Joshua Stouch, the constable in Douglass Township, served the warrant

            The docket includes a condition text stating that the defendant is to serve a mandatory 90-day sentence from Feb. 8 through May 9. The sentence was issued following a summary trial before Coggins.

            The judge executed the sentence on Jan. 8, according to the information posted on the website. Sponsler was required to report to Montgomery County prison a few days later but never appeared, according to Stouch.

            Quakertown police found Sponsler in the borough, walking west on Franklin Street towards a marked patrol vehicle. He saw an officer, turned and ran east before being tackled by a law enforcement official. On the ground, the suspect continued to resist arrest by tensing his arms so police could not put them behind his back to be handcuffed, according to the police criminal complaint filed in Gaier's court.

            Authorities claim to have discovered Sponsler in possession of a black, women's zip-up wallet which contained a digital scale with a clear cover, three scale weights, and more than 50 small baggies, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
