Don’t Allow the Chaos

Another week, and more riots and killing top the news.  Not even the glitter of two political conventions could keep the injury, death, and damage in our cities from being displayed to the world - still.

The intentions of so many, to peacefully protest, has been hijacked and many of those constitutionally protected gatherings of protest have turned into organized anti-police riots at the hands of out-of-towners.

We see time and time again where agitators on both sides travel great distances to be part of the mayhem.  And, we continue to see how that is working as more harm is leveled to people and neighborhoods that were never part of any controversy or problem.

If you're protesting police actions downtown why loot and burn a food market uptown?  It doesn't make sense.

There is no wholesale racial oppression by police.  There are bad cops just like there are bad people.  They need to be weeded out and removed from their jobs.  There are bad policies and procedures.  They need to be changed or removed from the handbook.   There are bad laws.  They need to be identified and changed.

Failure to do so is the fault of your elected officials.

When rioters make absurd demands they need to be criticized not satisfied.  Abolishing the police is not a reasonable demand.  Ask the people who live and work in the neighborhoods that have been destroyed with your arson and destruction.

The rioting and violence is pushing the honest efforts of true change-makers, into the shadows, and it doesn't belong there.

All candidates running for election to any position this November should be condemning the violence – all of it.  Not only that, but they should be condemning the people who are committing it – no matter what side.  Anything less could be viewed as a callous disregard for current events by a candidate.  Like a giant permission slip to riot the night away.

The problem intensifies when hyper-politically engaged people on the left and right choose to listen only to people who agree with them.

Things will only get worse until elected officials refuse to allow the chaos in our cities to continue.
