An Upper Hanover man is accused of assaulting a Pennsburg man in the borough on July 6. Noah Alexandar Sankar, 18, of East Buck Road, faces a felony aggravated assault charge with the intent to cause severe bodily injury and a related conspiracy charge.
Sankar is also accused of misdemeanor reckless endangering of another person, a related conspiracy charge and simple assault, along with summary simple assault from an incident at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block on Main Street.
The Upper Perk Police Department filed charges against Sankar on Friday morning in the Red Hill court of District Judge Maureen Coggins. Later in the day, Chief Joe Adam arrested him and two other male juveniles from Pennsburg and Hereford, respectively.
The victim, who walked into police headquarters in Pennsburg at 2:14 p.m. on July 7 to file a complaint, had serious visible injuries to his face as well as injuries to his arms. He informed Adam that three subjects emerged from a white Buick traveling north on Main Street and attacked him, according to the police criminal complaint.
The vehicle, which was driving in the opposite direction from the pedestrians, stopped a short distance after passing them. As the victim and his friends moved closer to his residence, Sankar began yelling to the group "something along the lines of let's take this to the alley which (the victim) interpreted as Sankar wanting to fight," according to the legal document.
The victim told police that as he was speaking to Sankar and his accomplices, the three began hitting him. He stated that during the altercation, after one of the subjects took him to the ground, he was repeatedly struck in the face and head while on the ground. The victim said he believed he was also kicked in the head while on the ground, according to court records.
A female witness, who described Sankar as the instigator of the group, told police on July 7 that as she turned around one of the juveniles and Sankar were on top of the victim hitting him in the face. She told the officer that she had to punch the juvenile who was striking the victim to get him to stop, according to the legal document.
Two days later, a male witness informed authorities that he was on his way to the victim's residence when he observed one of the juveniles holding the victim in a headlock or a chokehold, and the other juvenile and Sankar were both yelling and hovering over the fight. The witness said he ran as fast as he could to try to pull the juvenile off the victim.
According to this witness, Sankar forced the victim to the ground, laid on top of him and started hitting him, according to court records.
The witness, who told police he saw both juveniles kick the victim in the head while he was prone on the ground, attempted to pull one of them off the victim. He also said the victim, who was bleeding from his face and knees, was possibly unconscious for a second, according to the paperwork.
As everything appeared to calm down, Sankar kicked the victim one last time in the head or stomach before leaving the scene. The witness, who helped the victim get to his residence, said the victim collapsed on the floor, the document states.
The victim's mother transported him to St. Luke's Upper Bucks Campus in Upper Milford. He was then transported by ambulance to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center due to the nature and extent of his injuries.
The victim told Adam that he sustained bleeding behind his eye which could require surgery. He stated that he received treatment on his eyes and was informed he would need to follow up with an ophthalmologist for further treatment, according to law enforcement officials.
District Judge Gregory Scott set bail in the case against Sankar at $75,000 monetary during a preliminary arraignment at 5 p.m. on July 10. The defendant was remanded to Montgomery County prison.
A preliminary hearing in the case before Coggins is scheduled for 1 p.m. on July 20, according to information posted on a state judicial website.
