Business at Pierson's Plugs and Tackle is booming. The full line tackle shop, located on Rahn Avenue in Upper Frederick is currently up 70 percent, according to Bill Pierson, whose family owns and operates it.
"We're setting all kinds of records," Pierson said. "People are tired of being inside. When the county opens up its parks, we should do even better."
That day could come Monday when Green Lane Park is expected to open to the public as part of a tiered re-opening ordered by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.
"We're excited to be able to get those parks open," Chairperson Dr. Val Arkoosh said earlier this week during a daily COVID-19 news conference.
According to Arkoosh, the plan is to launch the opening of the park at 6 a.m. on Monday. All outdoor areas – including the tennis courts, the boat storage facility and the campgrounds, which will be accepting reservations – will be available to the public. The opening of Green Lane Park includes fishing, according to Theresa Harris, Montgomery County's press secretary.
Boat rentals are scheduled to start July 1, according to Arkoosh. Rental fees paid for 2020 will be credited on a prorated basis against 2021 season fees.
The commissioner requested that all utilizing the park practice physical distancing. Arkoosh also asked that people don facemasks when they get close to non-household contacts.
The re-opening plan is based on the assimilation of the various guidance documents, prioritizing US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) direction as well as the rapid adoption of measures recommended by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to mitigate contagion spread during the State of Pennsylvania's defined "yellow phase," according to information posted on the county website.
