A New Store for Hereford Township?
Written by Candace Perry, Correspondent
2020-05-06

A prospective new business has been asking about building in Hereford Township.

Township Engineer Jennifer Van Dyke reported that Dollar General had made inquiries to the Hereford Township Board of Supervisors via their Zoom meeting on Tuesday, May 5.

The company asked specifically about a site at the intersection of Shiffert Road and Route 29 in the mixed-use zoning district. The store would be permitted under conditional use.

The size of the Dollar General stores exceeds what is permitted in the mixed-use zoning. Van Dyke said that the township had to see how close the company can come to meeting the requirements.

She said that the company could submit a formal sketch plan for review by the township planning commission prior to submitting any formal application.

Van Dyke also said that her firm, Technicon, is now back up and running as construction is restarting and that building inspections are being done.

In roads news, the supervisors discussed the possible vacating of Kahler Road, a dirt road, by the township.  Solicitor Eugene Orlando sent a letter to residents of the road to open up a discussion on the possibility, but the response came back that the residents couldn't decide what to do. Orlando made suggestions of adopting an ordinance and having residents file objections, or holding a formal meeting to discuss the vacating.

Board chairman John Membrino said that "it needs to be discussed one way or another."

In other news, supervisor Keith Masemore requested that a sign be posted at the community park parking lot stating that the restrooms are closed so that visitors have advance warning.

The supervisors will hold their second monthly meeting via Zoom on May 19.
