Discarded tire removed from Mill Hill

On Saturday morning, volunteers from Scout Toops 108, 90, 79 along with other volunteers wrestled 210 tires from a wooded area along the Hosensack Creek at the base of Mill Hill in Upper Hanover Township.

Organizing the event was Upper Hanover Township resident Steve Harner, at right.  Harner, who walks the trails through the preserved open space off Ziegler Road, was appaled at the numerous tires he would see on his walks and decided something needed to be done.

To get tires out of the woods, they were loaded on trailers towed by ATV's.  Tires were found almost a half-mile deep in the woods.

East Greenville firefighter Shawn Sherwood hoses down the mud encrusted tires.  All of the tires needed to be washed before being taken away for recycling.
