A married couple living in Quakertown face drug and gun charges. Borough police arrested Joel and Taniesha Spells of separate addresses on West Broad Street, on Feb. 28.
Joel Spells, 43, has been charged with felony possession of drugs with the intent to deliver and a related conspiracy charge. He also faces one count of illegal possession of a firearm along with related misdemeanor drug charges.
Taniesha Spells, 40, faces one count each of with felony possession of drugs with the intent to deliver and a related conspiracy charge, along with one count of conspiracy to illegally possess a firearm and related misdemeanor drug charges, according to information posted on a state judicial website.
Local authorities took both into custody after executing a narcotics related search warrant at an apartment at the Bush House Hotel, located at 200 West Broad Street. Taniesha Spells was home at the time of the search, according to the police criminal complaint filed in the Red Hill court of District Judge Maureen Coggins.
A search of the house yielded a quantity of suspected marijuana, numerous unused baggies and a black digital scale as well as a Kimber .380 firearm. Joel arrived at the apartment during the search. Both suspects were taken into custody, according to affidavit of probable cause.
During an interview, Joel Spells allegedly admitted his intent to sell a portion of the marijuana discovered inside the residence. He also admitted to possessing the gun and said he knew he was not allowed to possess it, according to the court record.
Joel Spells has a prior arrests and convictions for felony drug possession with the intent to deliver and firearms possession that prevent him from legally possessing a firearm. Taniesha Spells also admitted to conspiring with her husband to sell the drugs and knowing that he was in possession of a firearm, court papers claim.
During a Feb. 28 arraignment, Gaier set bail in the case against Joel Spells at 10 percent of $200,000 monetary and against Taniesha Spells at $10,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing for both defendants has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 12.
