A new tax is coming to Hereford Township, but it won't affect everyone.
Township solicitor Chris Garrell, standing in for Eugene Orlando, held a public hearing on the proposed local services tax at the Hereford Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, December 3.
The $52 per year tax only affects individuals employed within the township, and most of the funds are dedicated to emergency services.
There were no comments on the tax during the hearing. The supervisors will adopt the ordinance at their December 17 meeting.
In other budget news, township secretary Norann Warmkessel announced that the 2020 township budget is available for public perusal at the office. It is set to be adopted at the December 17th meeting.
Township Engineer Jennifer Van Dyke reported that letters had been sent to residents of Five Points Road and Fetterman Road cautioning them to keep vehicles out of the right-of-way during snow events.
In parks news, the supervisors authorized the purchase of a night vision camera for the community park at a cost of $850.
In other news, a public meeting will be held by representatives of the United States Postal Service regarding the need for a post office in the township. The meeting will be held on December 11 at 6 p.m. at the Hereford Fire Company on Gravel Pike.
The first supervisors' meeting of 2020 will be held on Monday, January 6, with reorganization at 7 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m..
