The search for a missing Pennsburg teenager concluded Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency responders found Maryann Dyer, 16, around 3 p.m. deceased in an area near 11th St. in Upper Hanover Township. One emergency responder described the death as non-suspiscious.
The teen was reported missing on early Wednesday morning. Upper Perk Police posted a missing person report at that time.
She was last seen walking east on 11th Street in Red Hill from the Upper Perkiomen High School on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, Dyer contacted her mother by cell phone at 2:30 p.m. and informed her she was going for a walk before coming home. Surveillance cameras at the girl's residence confirmed that she never made it home.
State Police Helicopters were seen flying overhead throughout Wednesday as police searched the area.
Around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, volunteers from the Pennsburg Fire Company were called to assist with the search. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Macoby Creek Park, Upper Perk Police Chief Joe Adam, Jr. huddled with eight members of the borough fire company and the fire police to discuss the parameters of the search.
Adam and two of his uniformed officers disappeared into a wooded area behind the park. Two state police troopers arrived at the scene a few minutes later. A police K9 unit was also called to help with the search.
Less than 15 minutes later, approximately a dozen residents gathered next to parking lot. Pennsburg Mayor Vicki Lightcap directed them to wait for instructions from the police on how they could assist in the search.
According to Lightcap, emergency responders descended on the park as a staging area after police obtained video of the girl crossing Main Street at 11th Street in Pennsburg.
"That is our best piece of evidence," the mayor said. "We've exhausted all others."
