Patriot Day – Sept. 11
2019-09-04

            Never forget.

Patriot Day is a national day of service and remembrance that honors the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.  It has grown to include the hundreds who have died since of injuries related to the attacks or their work in the recovery effort.  In addition, it is a day to remember those who risked their own lives to save others that day.

A little more than one year after the attacks, President Bush proclaimed September 11, 2002, as the first Patriot Day

You can attend Patriot Day ceremonies or participate in a day of service in your community.

If you're planning your own event, you can observe moments of silence at: 8:46 a.m. –the time when American Airlines Flight #11 collided into the World Trade Center; 9:03 a.m. – The time when United Airlines Flight #175 collided into the World Trade Center South Tower; 9:37 a.m. – The time when American Airlines Flight #77 crashed into the Pentagon; 9:59 a.m. – The time when the World Trade Center South Tower Collapsed; 10:03 a.m. – United Airlines Flight #93 crashed in Shanksville, Pa.; and 10:28 a.m. – the time when the World Trade Center North Tower Collapsed.

The day can present a good opportunity to help an organization that has meaning to you.  Spread kindness and improve the lives of others.  Take the time to offer hope and your skills to others who need it most.

Most importantly, remember those killed in the attacks and those whose lives were forever changed.

Too young to remember Sept. 11, 2001?  Make Patriot Day the time when you promise to learn about that day.

It was a day when people across the United States were glued to their television sets and watched in horror.  It wasn't a movie – it was happening and millions of viewers saw it and felt helpless.

It has been 18 years ago.  Many people still remember what was going through their hearts and minds at the time.

When we said we wouldn't forget, we meant it – did you?
