Upper Perkiomen School District Start Moved to Sept. 5
Last Thursday, the UPSD Board voted to approve a revised 2019-20 School Calendar, which pushes the first day of school (as well as the first day for teachers) back by two days. The new first day of school for all Upper Perkiomen School District students is now Thursday, September 5, 2019. The first teacher day is Thursday, August 29.
Classes at the Western Center begins on August 26, Western Center students will continue to be bussed from UPHS on September 3 & 4.
According to a message posted on the UPSD website, Schools Superintendent Dr. Allyn J. Roche wrote "Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and we understand that the impact of this last minute change will be far reaching for our faculty, staff, students, families and the Upper Perk community as a whole. This recommendation was only made after extensive walkthroughs at both the new Middle School and the renovated 4th & 5th Grade Center over the last few weeks, and many conversations. With the Board's support, we determined that we need additional time to properly clean and prepare the classrooms and work stations with technology, telephones and supplies. This is necessary in order to welcome our faculty and staff to an appropriate work environment, and our students to an appropriate learning environment that meets Upper Perk standards. Even with this additional time to prepare for the new school year, we are still asking for your continued patience, flexibility and resiliency for a successful start."
