Little more than 21% of registered voters turned out in Montgomery County to try out the new "paper ballot" system in a Tuesday's Primary Election. Turnout was similarly low in neighboring counties as well.
While the Democratic race for Montgomery County Commissioner provide no surprise as Democratic incumbents Val Arkoosh (48,398) and Kenneth E. Lawrence, Jr. (46,841) easily topped challenger Ray Sosa (9,789), the Republican ticket provided five candidates looking to challenge them in November.
Republican incumbent Joe Gale (16,233) and Whitpain Township Supervisor Fed Conner (16,114) topped Sean Gale (14,420), Dean Eisenberger (14,454), and France W. Krazalkovich (5,909), and will face-off against Arkoosh and Lawrence in November.
In Berks, the race for County Commissioner saw Republican incumbent Mark C. Scott (6,968) and Democratic incumbent Kevin S. Barnhardt (6,457) lose their bid for reelection. Competing in the November election will be Republicans Christian Y. Leinbach (9,529) and Michael Rivera (8,779) who will be running against Democrats Donna Reed (8,343) and Michael Morrill (6,489).
The race for a seat on the Upper Perkiomen School Board, 10 candidates cross-filed in the race with four of them winning a spot on both the Democratic and Republican tickets in November.
Winning a spot on the Republican and Democratic ballots in November were incumbents
Mike Elliot and Judy Maginnis along with newcomer Peg Pennepacker.
On the Democratic side, Maginnis (541), Elliot (512), and Pennepacker (424) will be joined by Dana Hipszer (493), and Thomas Manion (387).
For the Republicans ticket, Maginnis (688), Elliot (701), and Pennepacker (754) will be joined by Raeann Hofkin (663) and Ed Walczak (537).
The November race for Magisterial District Judge 38-2-03 will see Maurice H. Saylor facing Dennis A. Psota, Jr. Both candidates were cross-filed with Saylor garnering 1,625 Republican votes and 642 Democratic votes, and Psota getting 1,105 Republican votes and 666 Democratic.
Tim Woodward (434) bested Beverly Plosa-Bowser (125) in the Republican race for Upper Hanover Supervisor. He will now face Democrat Lebrea Huff, who ran unopposed, in the November election.
Voters in Lower Frederick Township approved a ballot measure last year to increase the size of the Board of Supervisors from three to five members. As a result, candidates for the two new seats were on the ballot Tuesday. Supervisors for this year's election are running for a full six-year term, or a four or two year term.
For the six-year term, Republican incumbent Terry Sacks (372) and Nathan J. Schadler (321) topped Terry Bird (229) and will face Democrat Chuck Yeiser (255), who ran unopposed, in November.
For the four-year term, Republican Dan Orfe (301) bested Bryan J. Hill (188) and will face Democrat Chris Kristofco (254) in November.
For the two-year term, Republican incumbent Chuck Liedike (422) and Democrat Noelle Halter (262) both ran unopposed.
