The construction worker injured during a fall at the site of Upper Perkiomen School District's new middle school in Upper Hanover has died. Gary Juck, 61, of Pottstown, was pronounced dead at 1:22 p.m. on Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to a statement from Scott M. Grim, the Lehigh County Coroner.
Juck fell from scaffolding at approximately noon on Jan. 8 at the construction site located at 901 Montgomery Ave, according to the coroner's statement. He was cleaning bricks in front of the building with another worker, according to Thomas J. Baker, the chief financial officer and controller for Boro Construction, the project's general contractor. Juck, a 14-year employee of Boro, worked in the company's masonry division, according to Baker.
Superintendent Alexis McGloin offered condolences from herself and the district to Juck's family, friends "and everyone affected by his death and this sad situation," according to an email message received Wednesday afternoon from Nikki Gum, the district's communication specialist.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death was scheduled for Wednesday, according to the statement.
Troopers from the state police barracks in Skippack and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), an entity within the U.S. Department of Labor that sets and enforces protective workplace safety and health standards, are conducting the investigation, according the coroner.
