The Coopersburg man accused of robbing banks in Richland Township and Coopersburg Borough last month has been arrested. Officers from both departments took Richard Simmers, 54, into custody on Jan. 4, according to information posted on the Bucks Crime Watch website.
According to the Richland Township Police, Simmers robbed the Wells Fargo Bank branch on Dec. 31 in the Richland Plaza Shopping Center. Law enforcement officials responded to an incident at the bank, located at 755 South West End.
Law enforcement officials in Coopersburg claim Simmers is responsible for robbing the Lafayette Ambassador Bank on Wednesday, Dec. 19. He was arraigned Jan. 4 on that charge in the Coopersburg court of District Judge Daniel C. Trexler, who set bail in the case at $100,000 monetary.
Simmers was remanded to Lehigh County prison, according to information posted on a state judicial website. He will be arraigned on the Richland Township charge at a later date, according to police department's Crimewatch page.

The Richland Township Police Department is investigating a New Year's Eve robbery of a local bank branch. Local authorities are searching for a clean shaven white male with a very distinctive hoodie suspected of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank in the Richland Plaza Shopping Center.
Law enforcement officials responded to an incident at the bank, located at 755 South West End Boulevard at approximately 1 p.m., according to information posted on the department's Bucks County Crimewatch page.
