Joseph L. Johnson
2018-10-08

            Joseph L. Johnson, 72, of Red Hill, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 

2018 in his home.  He was the husband of Leona A. (Sheridan) Johnson celebrating 51 years of marriage on March 18, 2018.

            Born in Hazelton, he was a son of the late James and Anna Mae (Urban) Johnson.

            Joseph worked in the Microbiology Lab at Merck for 31 years retiring in 2001.

            He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and was a longtime member of the American Legion.

            He was an avid golfer and loved his dog, Winston.

            He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church where he spent mornings peacefully sitting at the statue of St. Joseph.  He also was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and many other local organizations and was  honored to have served as a House Page in the House of Representatives in Washington DC.

            Surviving along with his wife are a son, Christopher S. Johnson and wife, Donna of Pennsburg; a grandson, Hunter S. Johnson; a sister, Kathy, wife of David Edinger of Stroudsburg and many nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, James.

            A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with the Rev. Robert A. Roncase officiating.  Burial follows in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the mass. 

            Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041.  Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.

            Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the SPCA of Montgomery County, 1059 Sweisford Road, Perkiomenville, PA  18074.
