Last Thursday, the Quakertown Community School District Board of Directors selected Robert Diliberto to fill the board director seat vacated last month with the abrupt resignation of Austin Sedicum.
Sedicum served as vice president and chair of the board's finance committee before his resignation after details were released to the public of a criminal history. Prior to his resignation, Sedicum explained in a prepared statement that he was never asked to disclose a 1992 conviction for bank fraud, two DUIs in 2005 or a false statements guilty plea in 2011.
Sedicum's term would have expired at the end of 2019. Diliberto will serve out that term, representing the district's region 2 covering Milford Township and Trumbauersville Borough.
Diliberto has a background in business and finance, serving most recently in mid-market business development for Paychex, Inc. since 2004. A district resident for over 14 years, Diliberto has two children who attend Quakertown schools.
Diliberto explained that his background and personal interest in the district contributed to his decision to submit application for the seat. He hopes to quickly get a better understanding of the district's structural budget deficit and better ways to allocate resources.
"You have to figure out where the dollars are best spent," Diliberto said. "Are there ways to move money from one department possibly to another?"
Earlier this month, the board elected director David Ochmanowicz to serve as vice president.
