Dr. Carol A. (Long) McQuiggan, 63, of Elizabethtown, passed away at

home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 24, 2018 following her 39th wedding anniversary celebrated on May 19th.

            Carol was born in Pennsburg, PA. She received a B.S. in business administration as well as a M.Ed. in training and development and a D.Ed. in adult education from Pennsylvania State University.

            In 2016, Carol retired as Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Instructional Technology at Penn State Harrisburg. There, she also proudly served as co-chair for the University Commission for Women.

            In her retirement, she had recently co-founded the Melanoma Support Group of Hershey. Her persistence, strength and grace in the face of her long battle with melanoma continues to inspire others. 

            Carol and her husband, Bill, loved to travel together. She had a special love for the beach that she enjoyed sharing with her family. Carol was a voracious reader and shared her love of reading with book clubs, friends, and family. She enjoyed being outside, especially planting flowers and watching the visiting birds. Her lap cat, Murphy, brought much comfort. 

            Most of all, she loved being MomMom to her 4 grandchildren, Sophie, Margo, Jackson, and Miles. She was always there to listen to a story, sing a song, laugh at a joke, give a hug and wipe away a tear.

            In addition to her grandchildren, Carol is survived by her parents, Anna and Ephraim Long; her husband, Bill McQuiggan; children Scott, husband of Jamie McQuiggan, Kelly, wife of John Kennelly, and Steven, husband of Emily McQuiggan; brother Tom, husband of Tammy Long and their children Eric and Adrienne; and Bill's brother Mike, husband of Donna McQuiggan.

            A service will be held on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at 12 p.m. in St. Peters Catholic Church, 904 Mill Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:30am to 12 p.m. in the Church.

            In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Carol to the Women Helping Women Scholarship, Penn State Harrisburg, 777 W. Harrisburg Pike, W110 Olmsted, Middletown, PA 17057. Checks made payable to Penn State Harrisburg.
