For the third time in as many days, Upper Perkiomen's appearance in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Four Softball Championships on Thursday has been postponed by inclement weather. Now the team must wait until Saturday to take on Owen J. Roberts in the semifinal round at Spring-Ford High School.
The Indians, whose players will participate in the Senior Prom on Friday, are scheduled to play Saturday. Their game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. following the noon resumption of a semifinal contest between Spring-Ford and Methacton, which was suspended by heavy downpours early Tuesday evening with no score in the top the seventh inning. The championship game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday.
If the games can't be played Saturday, the conference will only recognize division champions for the 2018 season, according to an email sent Wednesday by Robert Kurzweg III, Upper Perkiomen's athletic director.
"League officials do not want to put any team in a bad position for the District or PIAA Tournament by trying to hold league playoff games next week," he wrote.
The Indians (15-4) qualified for the playoffs by defending their Frontier Division title.
They will begin defense of their District One Class AA title on Wednesday, May 23. Currently, they are listed in power rankings as the No. 2 seed in the district playoffs behind Villa Maria Academy. The top four teams advance.
