Julia (Alderfer) Grater
2017-10-23

            Julia (Alderfer) Grater, 92, passed away October 17, 2017 at her residence in Perkiomenville. She formerly lived in Green Lane, Nelson and Harleysville, and was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Grater, in 1998.

            Born October 2, 1925 in Skippack, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Selma (Cassel) Alderfer. She was a graduate of Schwenksville High School and Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing, and served in the Nurse's Corp. She was employed as a registered nurse at Elm Terrace Hospital, High Point Convalescent Home, Oaks Medical Clinic, and Laurel Health System.

            Mrs. Grater was a member of the Golden Agers Club of Pennsburg and took part in Bible study at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Pennsburg. She enjoyed cross stitch, needlepoint, sewing, knitting and reading.

            Surviving are four children, Judy Ziegler and her husband, Gary, of Green Lane, Pat Yeager and her husband, Ron, of Galeton, Rick Grater and his wife, Sue, of Harleysville, and Joey Bush and her husband, Jim, of Perkiomenville. She was known as Mammy and Mam to eight grandchildren, Alan, Tracy, Jessie, Julie, Seth, Justin, Jon and Tara; seven great grandchildren, Kyle, Andy, Rachel, Bryan, Rebekah, Jeremy and Alex; and a great-great granddaughter, Aleah.

            In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Kenny Alderfer, Andy Alderfer and Renee Haas.

            Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Zwingli U.C.C. Church, 350 Wile Ave., Souderton, where family will receive friends from 1 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Burial will be private at Limerick Garden of Memories.

            For those desiring, contributions may be made in her memory to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960, or to a local library of the donor's choice. Arrangements are by the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. of Skippack.
