Logan's Heroes Animal Rescue, Kings Highway East Greenville, provided some bark for your bacon at their first annual fundraising event held Sat., Oct. 7 from noon to 5 p.m.
The volunteer based animal rescue was founded by Christing Baringer in
Christine Baringer in2014 and has since rescued over 700 dogs, 100 cats, 7 horses, and some rabbits. Baringer's goal is to take homeless animals in need, whether from neglect or abuse, and allow them the opportunity to find their forever home filled with the love and compassion they deserve.
In order to help so many animals, fundraisers are necessary to gain the monies needed for the animals' veterinary care, food, and everyday items. Hence, the Bark 'N Bacon event was created to bring people out to their farm location and enjoy food, drinks, and family fun with pets in tow while raising those much needed funds.
"We had a great day! We want to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and vendors for making the day possible. Fundraisers like Bark 'N Bacon make it possible for us to provide food and vet care to our rescue animals," said Baringer.
About 30 vendors were present for the festivities sponsored by Daniels BMW and Mini of Allentown. Visitors were able to purchase a "passport" for $30 and enjoy samples of bacon related items from participating food and pet vendors. Various flavors of wine and beer were also available from Sleepy Cat Urban Winery of Allentown and Weyerbacher Brewing Company of Easton.
The Hoppin' Boxcars band played music while visitors walked through the rows of vendors. A picnic table area allowed for people to sit and enjoy their food. Whether you have a sweet tooth, a hankering for BBQ or enjoy roasted corn on the cob, the event proved plentiful in the food department.
The Smoke Factory BBQ was available for ribs or their passport sample of tomato soup with bacon, Ziggy's Roaster offered seasoned corn on the cob, XOXO Bakery lured visitors with their chocolate cupcakes with frosting and bacon pieces while M&J Gourmet provided samples of pulled pork with BBQ sauce. Clean Roots Vegetarian Cuisine offered tempeh "facon" samples and walking tacos to enjoy.
Many other vendors brought items for sale whether people or pet related. Children could also enjoy the day with pumpkin decorating, an opportunity to color with special markers on a Mini-Cooper car, and a tour of a restored helicopter that served in the Vietnam War on display by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 590.
"Very nice people. VVA Chapter 590 was received very well. It was a lovely day for the event. I wish Logan's Rescue the best in their endeavors. If we (VVA 590) can help in future events and facilitate work with veterans, we are happy to do so," said Tom Frieze of Pennsburg.
Frieze's wife, Judy, was also at the event and stated, "I'm thankful he (Tom Frieze) enjoyed the event and got to do something he enjoys – sharing history and supporting a good cause. The t-shirts from the event are great!"
"All and all for a first time event we did well. We are planning to iron out some kinks for an even better event for 2018," Baringer added.
