David W. Shaner
2017-10-02

            David W. Shaner, 74, of Hereford Township, Berks County died Sunday, October 1, 2017, in the inpatient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.  He was the husband of Rhoda L. (Moll) Shaner. They were married January 23, 1965.

            Born in Hereford Township, he was a son of the late Walter H. and Jean K. (Schott) Shaner.  David was a graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, East Greenville, Class of 1961.  Mr. Shaner was a member of Huff's Union Church, Alburtis.

            David was a Parts and Inventory Clerk for the former Morris Berman, Inc., Pottstown; which later became Pottstown Truck Sales; then he worked at Associated Truck Parts, Gilbertsville, until his health forced his retirement in 1997. 

            David was a baseball fan, having played in his younger years, and he continued to root for the Philadelphia Phillies

            Survivors: David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rhoda;  daughters Cynthia A. (Shaner) wife of David S. Pruiksma, Wescosville; Sheri L. Shaner, Mertztown; and a son, Michael D. Shaner, Barto.  Other survivors include a sister, Joanne (Shaner) wife of Harold Kemp, Oley, PA; a brother, Terry D. husband of Darlene (Stoudt) Shaner, Red Hill, Montgomery County.  There are two grandchildren, Nicole S. (Kromer) wife of Allen Fulmer and Joseph L. DeMarco; and a great grandson, Calvin W. Fulmer.  In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by a sister, Carol J. Shaner.

            Services:  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Huff's Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis, with Reverend Jane M. Kropa, officiating. Interment in Huffs Church Union Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church.

            Contributions: The family requests contributions be made to Huff's Union Church Capital Improvement Fund, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis, PA 18062.
