It's been 16 years now, and when we said we would never forget, we meant it.  Did you?

 

Nearly 3,000 people died that day.

 

Hundreds more have died since as a result of illnesses sustained from that tragic day.

 

People are still dying from those illnesses 16 years later.

 

10,000 people suffered injuries – many very serious.

 

The cost to the hijackers for their attacks was roughly $500,000.

 

The damage they caused was valued at more than $3.3 trillion.

 

          Of the most deadly attack on the United States, President George W. Bush said "One of the worst days in America's history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans' history. We'll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And, here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice."

 

          Of the 343 firefighters and other first responders who died that day, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, "We must ensure that future generations will be able to read their names, know what they did, appreciate their heroism, be inspired by their sacrifice, and ensure that they are designated as role models."
