John D. Detweiler
2017-09-05

            John D. Detweiler, 75, of Spring Mount, PA, husband of 54 years to

Patricia A. (nee Seasholtz) Detweiler, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA. Born May 25, 1942 in Sellersville, he was the son of the late John F. and the late Sallie F. (nee Detwiler) Detweiler.

            He was a 1960 graduate of Souderton High School, and later went on to earn his Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Drexel University. John had been employed for many years as a Mechanical Engineer until his recent illness. He was a dedicated longtime member, since 1974, of the Lower Frederick Fire Company while serving in many different capacities, including Chief of the Fire Company.

            John enjoyed serving as Santa Claus for the Fire Company for many years, and bringing joy to all of the children and their families, hunting, golfing, riding his Harley Davidson, singing base in the Friedens U.C.C. Choir, gardening, tending to his fish pond, and entertaining others with his jokes. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

            John is also survived by his children, Kelly Miller (Robert), of Harleysville, Trina Parke (Richard), of Schwenksville, and Julie DeSousa (James), of Schwenksville, his grandchildren, Joshua, Erin, Carson, Raegan, and Heather, his siblings, Judy, Paul, Carol, Leona, Royden, Nancy, and their families. He was also preceded in death by his sister, the late Jean Detweiler.

            Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday morning, September 7, 2017 from 8:30-10:30 AM at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Avenue, Lansdale, PA 19446 where his Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.

            The family has respectfully requested that flowers be omitted, and that those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution in his name to the Lower Frederick Fire Company, PO Box 1032, Spring Mount, PA 19473, and which would be deeply appreciated by his family.
