Michael F. Hamel, 68, of Perkiomenville, formerly of King of Prussia,

passed away on Wednesday, July 26 at Grand View Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Walter Frank and Mary Alice (Dougherty) Hamel.

Mike was a member of St. Mary Church in Schwenksville where he was a Eucharistic minister.  He graduated from Upper Merion (1966) and Penn State (1970) with a BS in Criminal Justice. He started his career in Montgomery County probation in 1970 and, later, became the Chief of Adult Probation until his retirement in 2008.

He was a member of the Penn State Alumni Assoc., Ancient Order of Hibernians and the NRA. Mike liked board shoots at local gun clubs and Civil War history.  He also enjoyed going to the shore (and Penn State football games) as well as the company of his friends at Sumneytown Hotel.

He is survived by his sister Mary Denick, wife of Don, of Gilbertsville; niece Ellie Hamel; nephews Daniel Denick and Maj. Collin Hamel, husband of Jessica and their 3 children; and sister in law Shirley Hamel. He is predeceased by his brother Peter J. Hamel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 4, 11 a.m. at St. Mary RC Church, 40 Spring Mount Rd, Schwenksville, PA 19473 with visitation from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Burial will be private.
