Bridge and road repairs in our area have created many challenges for motorists over the past year and will continue to do so in the near future with a busy PennDOT schedule.
As each project finishes, drivers breathe a sigh of relief as they traverse improved roadways, but travel restrictions and detours will continue as work progresses.
The closure of Route 663 (Layfield Road) is scheduled to continue through August as bridge replacement work over the West Branch of the Perkiomen Creek continues.
According to a PennDOT press release, the Quakertown Road Bridge over the Macoby Creek in Upper Hanover Township (between Wasser Road and the Bucks County Line) is scheduled to close in July for repairs.
Construction work on the Peevy Road Bridge over the Perkiomen Creek in Upper Hanover Township should be going out for bid soon. The bridge was built in 1880 and rebuilt in 1987 according to Montgomery County records. A schedule has not been finalized yet for the work.
Drivers should take extra caution and allow additional travel time as bridge inspections take place in the area over the next two weeks
On Wednesday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the right lane is scheduled to close on eastbound Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Thompson Road and Long Mill Road in Upper Salford Township.
Thursday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the right lane is scheduled to close on southbound Route 29 (Gravel Pike) between Memorial Drive and Delphi Road in Lower Frederick Township.
Southbound Route 29 (Main St.) in Pennsburg is scheduled to have its right lane closed on Friday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Buck Road and 11th Street.
According to PennDOT, the inspections are part of their program to inspect bridges at least once every two years to ensure the safety and overall condition of the structures.
Also on PennDOT's schedule for July is repairing and resurfacing Kumry Road from Sleepy Hollow Road in Milford Township to Creamery Road in Trumbauersville.
According to PennDOT, Blooming Glen Contractors of Hilltown Township, Bucks County, is the general contractor on the $3,732,792 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.
State Road/Station Avenue in Richland Township is scheduled to be closed weekdays July 5 to July 14 between Richlandtown Pike and Route 209 for base repair. During construction, State Road/Station Avenue motorists will be detoured over Route 309 and Cherry Road.
