Joseph Dzurenda
2017-06-14

            On June 2, 2017, Joseph V. Dzurenda (88) passed away peacefully

at his home in NJ

            Born in Oneida, PA, Mr. Dzurenda received his primary education at Girard College in Philadelphia. After graduating, he served honorably in the US Navy on a destroyer and later in the US Army ROTC program.

            Continuing his education, he graduated from Temple University in 1953 with his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education in 1959. During his career, he taught science and history and became vice principal at Haddon Township High School.

            Later he became principal at the Oaklyn Middle School.  He continued his career as an educator working for the New Jersey Department of Education in Trenton and then retiring from the Federal Office of Education in Philadelphia.

            Joseph served on the Saint Francis De Sales School Board of Education for several years.

            Mr. Dzurenda was passionate about baseball and was involved in coaching little league and supported all his children's activities. He also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, jogging, hiking, tennis and cross country skiing.

            He cherished family vacations and trips to the Adirondack Mountains and other destinations.

            Joseph is lovingly survived by his wife, Anne (nee Neborak); his children, William (Donna), Thomas (Sue) and Joanne (Brian) Goode; his 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Joe, Nick and Gavin Dzurenda and David Goode as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dzurenda was the last of 5 children to August and Johanna Dzurenda.

            Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday evening from 7 - 9 PM and again Monday morning 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the Healey Funeral Home, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ.   His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday morning 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 4th Avenue and Kings Highway, Haddon Heights. Interment with military honors will follow at New St. Mary's
