John R. Sowers
2017-06-05

            John R. Sowers, 83, of Perkiomenville, passed away Friday, June 2,

2017 at home surrounded by family.  Born in Skippack, he was a son to the late John F. and Elizabeth (Grater) Sowers.

            John was drafted into The United States Army at age 18 and served our country for two years.

            He then worked at B.F. Goodrich for 34 years as a tire builder and shipper.  John also worked at the Green Lane Park in Montgomery County as a maintenance worker for many years until his retirement.

            He was a member of the Red Hill VFW, D&D Hunting Club in Tioga County, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ in Sumneytown.

            He enjoyed anything outdoors; hunting, fishing, wildlife, and gardening.

            He is survived by his two children, J. Scott Sowers and longtime companion, Penny Beck of Perkiomenville and Connie L. Schwenk, wife of Calvin residing in Schwenksville.  John is also survived by two granddaughters, Nikki and Kristy Schwenk and also three sisters, Doris, wife of Bert Stover of Green Lane, Edie Hambleton of Lansdale and Anne, wife of Don Knisley of Hatfield.

            In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a younger brother, Edward.

            A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Frieden's United Church of Christ, 1011 Church Road, Sumneytown, PA 18084 with Rev. Deborah Schwartz officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. 

            Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA  18041.
