Sumter Herbert Jr.
Sumter Herbert Jr., of Seaford, Delaware (formerly of East Greenville
and Red Hill) passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2017. He was 67 years old.
Sumter was born on July 28, 1949 in Norristown, PA. He graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1968. After graduation he worked several construction and factory jobs. In 1970 he began working at Boise Cascade in East Greenville. During his years there, he held a variety of positions.
Beginning in 1986 Sumter lived and worked at the Upper Perkiomen Manor located at 107 East 5th Street, Red Hill. He was the Building Maintenance Manager and friend to all who resided there.
In 1992, Sumter began volunteering with the Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance Association. He served as a driver and certified First Aid provider for many years. Sumter's time and dedication were recognized by receiving the award for being UPVAA's Outstanding Daytime Corpsperson.
Sumter enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, spending time on his boat, fishing, and spoiling his 2 Chocolate Labradors, Kia and Tess.
He will always be remembered for his love of life, love of people, wonderful sense of humor, and his many practical jokes.
He is survived by; his wife, Jennifer (Kutt) Herbert (Seaford, Delaware), two Daughters; Regina McIlvaine (Red Hill, PA) and Stachein Nester (Allentown, PA), and 5 grandchildren; Alex McIlvaine, Darian Herbert, Demetrius McIlvaine, Desiree Nester and Dion Valasquez.
There will be a time for Remembrance and Visitation on May 21, 2017 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Upper Perkiomen Manor, Community Room. Interment will be private.
