Gerald A. Cleary
2017-05-02

      Gerald A. Cleary, 90, husband of Shirley M. (Steinman) Cleary, of

Bally, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Lutheran Home at Topton.  He and his wife celebrated 68 years of marriage on January 15, 2017.

      Born in Bally, he was a son of the late Ruth (Ames) and Adam Butz, Sr.

      He was a graduate of East Greenville High School and Veteran of the U.S. Air Force honorably serving in World War II.

      Gerald worked as a Machinist for the Former Great American Knitting Mills in Bally, PA for 41 years retiring in 1988.

      He was lifelong member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; a life member of the NRA and Bally Fire Company, a member of the Bally Sportmen's Association and a car enthusiast and proud owner of a 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS 396.

      Surviving along with his wife are three children, Judith A. Virus of Pennsburg, Jeffrey G. Cleary of Bally and Jill M. Cleary of Bechtelsville; siblings, Nancy Schuster of Vera Cruz, and Adam Butz, Jr. and wife, Janet, and Pauline, wife of Harold Strunk, all of Macungie; three grandchildren, Jessica Imburgia, Jaclynn Matusiewicz and Jacob Cleary and four great grandchildren, Isabella, Makayla, Lincoln and Griffin.  Along with his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, George and Robert Butz.

      A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 610 Pine Street, Bally PA 19503 with the Rev. Fr. Adam Sedar officiating.  Burial follows in the church cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday in church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.  Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
