Peter P. Brungard
2017-04-03

            Peter P. Brungard, Jr., 88, of Barto, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. Peter was the beloved husband of Betty J. Brungard, his wife of over 64 years. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Peter and Dorothy (Welty) Brungard.

            Peter was a graduate of Northampton High School and served his country in the United States Air Force with pride.

            He was a registered surveyor for nearly 50 years. Peter was especially proud of his work as the lead surveyor during the planning and construction of the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan, which to this day, is still recognized as the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere.

             He was active in Bally's Senior Center, where he served as President and Vice President for eight years. He was an active member with the New Hanover AARP, where he served on the Executive Board.

            Peter loved spending time with his family. He was a man of many talents and hobbies. He enjoyed traveling, artistic hobbies (such as building intricate airplane models and wood carving) and he was an avid student of nature and history as well as an ardent Penn State football fan. 

                Survivors: Peter will be dearly missed by his loving wife; daughter, Deborah and her husband, Andrew Van Kraanen; son, Michael; daughter, Rebecca M. Bish and her husband, Lewis; adoring granddaughter, Mary (Mary Lou) Bish. Peter was preceded in death by his son, Peter P. Brungard, III. 

                Services: Memorial 11 AM Thursday, April 6 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus. Calling hour 10-11 AM Thursday in the funeral home. Interment to follow at Huffs Church Cemetery.

                Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post #0184, 744 Gravel Pike, East Greenville, PA. 18041, or the Miller-Keystone Blood Bank Center, Cedar Crest Professional Park, 1255 S Cedar Crest Blvd #1300, Allentown, PA 18103, where he had donated many times during his lifetime.
