Upper Perkiomen's wrestling team captured four individual championships over the weekend at the Kurt Meister Invitational Tournament in Warminster.
Jared Kuhns (113 pounds) Jarek Svanson (132), Jacob Folk (160) and Michael Modugno (220) each won three consecutive bouts during the tournament on Sunday, Jan. 22, hosted by Archbishop Wood High School.
Gavin Marks (113) and Roberto Rosado (285) each earned third-place finishes for the Indians, who finished third place in the overall standings behind the host Vikings and North Penn. Zach Rozanski (120) and D.J. McIlvaine (145) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
After receiving a bye in the quarterfinal round, Kuhns shut out Daniel Valdner, from Pleasant Valley, in the semifinals en route to a second-period technical fall. In the final, Kuhns posted a 3-0 victory over Archbishop Wood's Max Shaffer.
At 132, Svanson defeated Zach Shaffer from Archbishop Wood to advance to the gold medal match. There he scored a 7-2 decision over North Penn's Jake Yoder.
Folk needed three victories to capture his title. He opened with a 29-second pin of Emrakh Faikov from Northeast High to advance to the semifinals. Folk then pinned Pennsbury's Connor Gowton in the second period to reach the finals. He capped the run with a 2-0 victory over Patrick O'Neill from North Penn.
Modugno opened with a first-period fall over Pennsbury's Scott Diethorne in the semifinal round. He hung on for a 3-1 victory over Connor Bishop from Archbishop Wood.
Marks responded from a semifinal technical fall loss to Archbishop Wood's T.J. England by reeling off consecutive falls to secure third place at 106 pounds.
In the consolation semifinals, he posted a first-period fall against Ian Santiago from Northeast High, needing only 39 seconds to beat North Penn's Austin Ziegler.
Rosado responded similarly after losing in the semifinal round at 285 pounds. First, he hung on for a 3-2 win over Christian DeReinzi from Pleasant Valley, then beat Pennsbury's Elijah Slaughter 3-1 in the consolation final.
Four days earlier, the Indians posted a 59-24 victory over visiting Phoenixville in the Pioneer Athletic Conference.
McIlvaine (145), Folk (152) and Rozanski (126) each scored first-period falls in the dual meet, which included seven forfeits.Ryan Rossiter (132) added a technical fall victory.
Upper Perkiomen was scheduled travel to Pottsgrove on Wednesday for a PAC dual match. The team will also travel to Upper Merion on Saturday morning for a match.
