Allan Brooks Whitaker, Jr.
2017-01-23

Allan Brooks Whitaker, Jr., 91, of Milford Township, passed away

peacefully on January 17, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Karen Haines Whitaker. They celebrated 36 years of marriage last May.

Born in New Media, he was a son of the late Allan B. Whitaker Sr., and Katherine (Eddowes) Whitaker. He served his country honorably in France and Germany in the Army during WWII and shared his experiences with young people.

Following his service he worked at the former Brewster Aircraft in Johnsonville. He then became a millwright at Link Belt / FMC for 14 years and then moved into management for the last 19 years there.

He was a member of Ridge Valley United Church of Christ in Sellersville where he volunteered during Vacation Bible School. As a young man, he was an avid roller-skater and served as a skate guard at Line Lexington Skating.

Allan was a dedicated husband and father. He volunteered at Special Olympics for 42 years. He was a Master Mason member of W.K. Brey Lodge # 410 F. & A. M. He was also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Allentown and a member of R.W. Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. He was proud that a very valuable triangle Masonic watch that he donated is on display in the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library in Lexington, MA.

He was also an amateur radio operator for over 80 years with the handle K3ZRB. Allan was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and was a lifetime member of Great Swamp Fish & Game Club. He was also a wood worker and builder, and did laminating as an avocation as well as calligraphy.

Surviving with his wife are his children: Allan B. Whitaker III, and his wife Maureen of Quakertown, Heather Whitaker and her life partner Jon Marwell of Tarrytown, NY, and Ryan Whitaker of Milford Square; a grandson, Robert Hill; siblings: Joan, wife of Dave Axner of Sanford, NC, Brooks Whitaker and his wife Lois of Chalfont, PA, and Vernon Whitaker, and his wife Ann; and nieces: Karen, Cheryl, and Dawn Gee. He was predeceased by siblings: Dorothy Gee, Doug Whitaker, and Betty Kleinert.

Services will be held at Ridge Valley UCC April 17, 2017. All friends and family are welcome to call beginning at 10AM until service at 11AM. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Ridge Valley UCC, 905 Allentown Rd, Sellersville, PA 18960 or St. Luke's VNA Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg. Visit his "Book of Memories" at falkfuneralhomes.com.
