Route 663 Bridge to Close Nov. 14
Layfield Road to close till August, 2017
Originally scheduled to close in March of 2017, Route 663 (Layfield Road) will close for construction, between Maple Lane and Klinerd Road in Upper Hanover Township, on November 14, 2016. Signs have been posted along Route 663 to alert motorists of the extended closure. The road is scheduled to be closed until August, 2017. The bridge, crossing the Green Lane Reservoir, was scheduled to be replaced, beginning in Spring of 2017.
According to an Upper Hanover official, PennDOT decided on the early closure out of concern that the bridge would not last through the winter season and could necessitate another weight limit reduction or a winter closure of the span.
Initial work on the bridge can be conducted through the winter season, and it was decided to begin the project in November of 2016.
There is a 267 day contract time for completion from the start date. This would bring the scheduled completion into August of 2017.
The original start date of March 2017 had an expected completion date of December 2017.
