On Tuesday night, Upper Hanover officials displayed the township's 275th anniversary logo on two table covers that will be used throughout the anniversary celebrations. The logo, designed by township resident Rachel Koder, was selected by the Anniversary Committee.
The board presented Koder with a service recognition award for creating the design. The logo will appear in a history book created especially for the anniversary, available for sale during the Anniversary Celebration on September 17 at Camelot Park.
Township Manager Stan Seitzinger announced that the next anniversary event will occur on Sunday May 22, 2-3:30 pm at the township's municipal building. Local historian and chairman of the township's historical committee Larry Roeder, along with other committee members, will present A History of Upper Hanover, an overview of the people and events that have shaped Upper Hanover.
During the public comment period, Kevin Mozzone of East Buck Road thanked the board for installing stop sign warning signage along Buck Road approaching the intersection of Geryville Pike. Chairman Eugene Fried explained that the township proceeded with the sign installation on Buck Road before receiving recommendations from the county. Fried noted that the township has since then received a recommendation to also add signage and remove obstructive shrubbery on Geryville Pike.
"Hopefully, it will help," Mozzone said.
Fried reported that the township received a fourth specification for the purchase of a highway truck and hose crimper. The board accepted the lowest bid from Fred Bean, contingent upon confirmation that the quote is correct as totaled.
The board passed a resolution to designate Seitzinger as an agent, allowing him to represent the township in efforts to recoup funds through PEMA for the January 2016 snowstorm.
In parks and recreation business, Fried reported that the committee is still considering ideas for park development on a portion of the township's 19 acres of open space on Fennel Road. According to Fried, the committee is researching the feasibility of a dog park on the property but is not ready to make a recommendation.
Seitzinger announced that the Upper Perkiomen Relay for Life will be held at Camelot Park this Saturday May 14. The event will run from 10 a.m to 10 p.m.
