If Upper Perkiomen's lacrosse season ended Monday night, Morgan Rynn expressed no regrets about the team's overall performance.
"I can't say I'm disappointed at all," Rynn said. "This team has had one of the best seasons in school history. This feels like a whole different team than it was two years ago. This is the best group of people I could have done this with."
Following a 10-8 loss to Methacton in the semifinal round of the Pioneer Athletic Conference playoffs on their home field, Rynn and her three classmates posed for group photos for family and friends and consoled each other.
Regan McComb, Alyssa Long, Jenna Wismer and Rynn led the Indians (12-7) to the Frontier Division title and a berth in the playoffs. But they couldn't push their team past the Warriors and into Thursday's title game.
"We played our hearts out," Rynn said. "But in the end, it wasn't enough."
Kenzie Gebhart and Hope Flack each finished with a team-high three goals for Upper Perkiomen. Rynn added two goals and three assists. McComb recorded 15 saves, including nine in the first half.
Down by four goals early in the first half and 7-5 at halftime, the team got within 9-8 midway through the second half on an unassisted goal by Flack.
Daria Lucchesi's goal with 4:27 remaining extended the lead for Methacton. The team then won the ensuing faceoff, and ran off the remaining time to clinch its victory.
"We should have come out harder in the beginning," Rynn said.
The Indians struggled in the faceoff circle, winning only two of 20 draws. Head coach Susan Flack called it the difference in the game.
"Methacton was very good on the ball, and our girls weren't quick enough in and around the circle," Flack said. "They had to work so hard to try to overcome that. Our defense played great."
According to Rynn, Upper Perkiomen displayed grit and ability to keep the game close despite the lopsided faceoff results. She said the outcome might have been different had the team won four or five more draws. "Losing all those draws really hurt," Rynn said.
On Wednesday, May 4, during Senior Night, the Indians clinched the Frontier Division title with a 19-6 victory over Pottsgrove. Rynn and Hope Flack each finished with four goals and two assists. Gebhardt added four goals and an assist.
Liz Fox and Erika Boyer each scored twice for Upper Perkiomen, which led 12-5 at halftime. Michaela Swenk posted a goal and an assist, while McComb stopped three shots.
Rynn described the victory, which contented one of the team's goals, as the highlight of the season to date. "We delivered the breakout season we were hoping for," she said. "That victory set it in stone."
The following day, the Indians lost their regular-season finale at Pope John Paul II. In a 12-10 defeat, Hope Flack posted a team-high three goals and one assist. Kenzie Gebhardt added two goals and one assist.
Alyssa Long scored twice, while Morgan Rynn delivered a goal and an assist. McComb made 10 saves.
Now Upper Perkiomen must wait until Sunday night to see if it will advance to the District One Class AAA playoffs. According to Flack her team entered play Tuesday ranked at 29. She said the top 32 teams will qualify.
"No matter where we're seeded, it would be a great accomplishment for ourselves and the school if we could make it," Rynn said.
