Green Lane Man Arrested After Drunken Drive-Thru Debacle
Written by Kelly Chandler Staff Writer

Fights police, injures elderly woman during scuffle

A Green Lane man is currently in Montgomery County jail after he reportedly attempted to navigate the drive-thru at McDonald's in Pennsburg while intoxicated with an 8-year-old boy in the car.

And the night didn't get any better for 21-year-old Chad T. Lee.

Upper Perk Police have charged Lee, of the 400 block of 4th Street, with endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, obstructing law enforcement, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, two counts each of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, and public drunkenness in connection with the events of Sunday night, which began at the restaurant in the 500 block of Pottstown Avenue.

According to court documents in the case, a McDonald's employee called police after she said Lee was visibly intoxicated and was nodding off in the drive-thru around 8:52 p.m.  He also reportedly had a small child in the front seat of the vehicle and left the child alone while he parked in front of the drive-thru and stumbled around the restaurant.

Police said Lee admitted to drinking that night and was taken into custody.  While being transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Quakertown, however, Lee reportedly became belligerent and threatened to burn down Upper Perk Police headquarters, as well as assault police.

Police said they requested assistance from St. Luke's Hospital security.  At the hospital, Lee reportedly fought authorities while employees tried to get his information and he allegedly injured a 92-year-old woman during a "violent struggle."  The woman, authorities said, was seated in the waiting room of the emergency room and was discharged, waiting to go home.

Lee refused a blood test to determine his blood alcohol concentration (BAC), police said, and Upper Perk Police proceeded to transport him to Montgomery County Correctional Facility for violating his probation.

During that ride, police said Lee threatened to kill two Upper Perk Police officers and attack the transporting officer.  According to a criminal complaint, he then tried to kick out the rear window of the police car and slammed his head against the partition.

Police said Lee had a large laceration to his face and was taken to Grand View Hospital in Sellersville for treatment.  There he needed to be restrained by several people, including members of Franconia and Pennridge Regional police departments, and threatened to kill each person there individually, according to the complaint.

Lee was arraigned by Judge Catherine Hummel Fried of Red Hill District Court, who set bail at $5,000 cash on the charges.  He remains incarcerated awaiting a preliminary hearing today at 1:30 p.m. in Red Hill.
