An East Greenville man is currently in Montgomery County jail on charges he tried to strangle his girlfriend during an incident at his Blaker Drive home last week.
Anthony Alderfer, 29, was charged with felony aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, harassment, recklessly endangering another person and two counts each of disorderly conduct and simple assault after police responded to his home shortly after midnight Friday.
According to a criminal complaint in the case, Alderfer's father called authorities after he heard a disturbance between his son and his son's girlfriend. Police said upon arrival they found Anthony Alderfer was highly intoxicated and he told police he was "about to snap."
Court papers describe a verbal argument ensued between the couple after they came home from a night out drinking and Alderfer told his girlfriend to leave the house. Police said he demanded she give him the house key back, and when she told him she wasn't sure where her keys were, Alderfer kicked her in the ribs.
While she was slumped over on the floor, police allege Alderfer then jumped on top of his girlfriend and strangled her with his hands. Police said Alderfer squeezed her neck for several seconds, causing her to be unable to breathe.
Authorities said the woman told police, "I really thought he was going to kill me."
The woman, who ran to Walmart in Upper Hanover Township, where she called 911, had obvious swollen marks on her neck and a torn shirt, according to court papers.
Police said Alderfer later admitted to the attack and said he was ashamed of his actions, stating he was in a "state of rage" at the time of the crime.
Alderfer was arraigned by Judge Catherine Hummel Fried of Red Hill District Court, who set bail at $15,000 cash. He was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility, where he awaits a Jan. 19 preliminary hearing in front of Hummel Fried.
