PA State Police arrested an East Greenville man on drug charges after a traffic stop in Upper Hanover Township last week.
Ronald L. Shelly, 55, of the 600 block of Hamilton Road, was arraigned Nov. 22 by Judge Karen Eisner Zucker of Bala Cynwyd District Court on a felony charge of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, along with charges of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving an unregistered and uninsured car, with other traffic offenses.
According to court records, Shelly was stopped for having the wrong license plate on his vehicle on Montgomery Avenue near Layfield Road shortly after midnight. Police said as the trooper questioned Shelly, and as he got out of the vehicle, a small blue plastic bag with a white powdery substance fell from his lap. Authorities identified the substance preliminarily as cocaine. A search revealed Shelly also had 25 Alprazolam, or Xanax, pills in his pocket.
Court documents state that the trooper searched the vehicle and found an open cigarette box on the floor with two additional bags that appeared to be cocaine. A white bag under the driver's seat was also found containing suspected marijuana, police said.
A criminal complaint in the case stated Shelly told the trooper he "wasn't going to use it [the marijuana], I was just going to sell it."
Police said the narcotics later tested positive as marijuana and cocaine. Shelly was found to be wanted on an active warrant by Montgomery Township Police Department and was taken into custody.
Bail was set at $10,000 unsecured by Judge Zucker, and Shelly awaits a preliminary hearing Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. in Red Hill District Court in front of Judge Catherine Hummel Fried.
