Upper Perk Police Arrest Pennsburg Man on Drug Charges
Written by Kelly Chandler Staff Writer
2015-11-24

Police said a Pennsburg man is in Montgomery County jail on half a million dollars' bail after he was found in possession of multiple bags of crystal methamphetamine and heroin packaged for sale.

James Tarantino, of the 1000 block of Valley Court in Pennsburg, was charged last week with two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver along with two counts of possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license.

According to court records, Tarantino spent more than a week in Bucks County Correctional Facility earlier this month for similar charges filed by Quakertown Borough Police.  Court papers state Tarantino was charged Nov. 2 with three felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and related charges stemming from a Sept. 11 incident in the borough.

He reportedly made bail Nov. 11 in that case and is awaiting a preliminary hearing Dec. 18 in Quakertown District Court.

Tarantino was arrested by Upper Perk Police Nov. 17.

According to court documents filed by Upper Perk Police Cpl. James Lavin, Tarantino, formerly of the 700 block of Valley Road in East Greenville, was wanted on a warrant filed by PA State Police, Dublin, for felony drug possession and driving under the influence of a controlled substance, among other offenses.  Those charges are from a June 26 incident in Milford Township, court papers state.

Upper Perk Police said in a criminal complaint that Tarantino was allegedly found there in possession of several bags of crystal meth that were packaged for sale, along with bags of heroin, marijuana and packs of Suboxone, a drug used to treat withdrawal symptoms from opiates.  Police said Tarantino was also allegedly found in possession of a substantial amount of packaging materials.

Upper Perk Police said, after finding out about the warrant, they located Tarantino standing in front of his former home and arrested him.

He was allegedly found at that time in possession of five small bags of crystal meth, packaged in a larger Ziploc bag, ten bags of heroin and $167 in cash.  Authorities said the meth was valued at $250 and the heroin at approximately $150.

Police said he was also seen by an Upper Perk officer earlier the same day driving a red Ford Explorer while his license was suspended.  An investigation is ongoing.

Tarantino was arraigned Nov. 17 on the Upper Perk charges by Judge Katherine E. McGill of Oreland District Court.  He was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled in front of Judge Catherine Hummel-Fried Dec. 1 in Red Hill.

Court records show Tarantino is also scheduled to go to trial next month in Bucks County Court on assault and terroristic threat charges filed by state police, Dublin in August.
