Robert H. Garis
2015-09-08

            Robert H. Garis, of Pennsburg, PA, formerly of Souderton, died on 

Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the age of 90, at Pennsburg Manor.

            He was the loving husband of Ruth Florence (Ede) Garis for 67 years. Robert was born in Souderton, to the late Elmer D. and the late Vera (Hummel) Garis.

            He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator on 65 missions flying the Hump.  He was a member of the Warren Royer Post 234, American Legion in Souderton and the China-Burma-India-Hump Pilots Association.

            He is survived by: one son, Robert "Dick" R. Garis and wife Martha of Neptune Beach, FL; one daughter, Lori Folcarelli of Mansfield; Seven Granddaughters, Kristel (Donnie) Gartner of McAdoo, Nicole (James) McCarthy of Collegeville, Randi Lea (Jason) Flexer of Zionsville, Sabrina Leibenguth of Allentown,  Kendra (Brian) Weaver of Quakertown, Amy Folcarelli of Cape Coral, FL; Five Grandsons, Robert (Jennifer) Garis of Guam, Ryan (Michelle) Garis of Riverview, FL, Jason Garis of Marion, MS, Joshua Garis of FL, Joseph Folcarelli of Blossburg; and 13 Great-Grandchildren;  Rebecca, Julianna, Kaileigh, Emily, Elizabeth, Aidan, Allison, Luke, Savannah, Colton, Chase, Sophia, and Eli. Also 9 sisters and 1 brother.

            He was predeceased by; Ruth Cheryl Gartner, daughter; Kevin Wayne Garis, son and 3 brothers.

            A viewing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964 from 6 - 8 PM. A second viewing time will be on Friday, Sept. 11, from 2 - 3 PM at the Souderton Brethren in Christ Church, 494 Cherry Road, Souderton. A Celebration of Life service will follow the viewing at the church.

            Burial will take place at Hatfield Cemetery at the family's convenience.

            A special thank you to all his caregivers at Pennsburg Manor, Alliance Cancer Specialists, and Grand View Hospital Medical Short Stay.
