The Upper Perkiomen Youth Baseball 12U Chiefs concluded its travel baseball season with an expectation-exceeding trip to Cooperstown Dreams Park in New York Aug. 1-6. Competing amidst a pool of 104 teams from all over North America, the Chiefs went 5-1 in preliminary play, earning the 26th seed, then proceeded to win its first elimination game in convincing fashion before being eliminated by the no. 7 seed from Virginia, finishing play in the top 32.
Tournament highlights for the Chiefs included six straight wins over teams from NJ, AL, IL, MA, MO and TN and a very impressive offensive barrage. Over four days and eight games, the Chiefs scored 116 runs, banged out 102 hits, hit 26 total home runs with 10 different players hitting at least one, and saw five different Chiefs pitchers record mound wins.
The Dreams Park experience rounded out a solid 2015 campaign in which the Chiefs recorded an overall 19-12 record, recording second place finishes at the Quakertown and Forks tournaments, and finishing as a semifinalist at Deep Run along the way.
