A Marlborough Township man is behind bars after authorities said he attacked a man he believed was having an affair with his wife.
Matthew Jensen, 53, of the 5000 block of Hiffletrayer Road, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment in connection with the incident around 9:30 p.m. outside Isaac Smith Park in Green Lane.
He was arraigned Sunday and was remanded to Montgomery County Jail after being unable to post $100,000 cash bail.
According to court documents, Jensen told authorities he suspected his wife was cheating on him with the victim, identified by police as a Perkiomenville man, and approached the man's pickup truck parked at the location.
After he saw his wife and the man inside, police said Jensen hit the front driver's side window and door of the pickup truck with a wooden baseball bat. The window shattered, authorities said, and the man and woman got out of the vehicle. Jensen then told police he hit the man in the head, as well as his hands, with the bat as the man tried to defend himself, according to the criminal complaint.
The victim suffered serious wounds to his head, police said, which was bleeding profusely upon police arrival. Authorities said when they got to the scene, Jensen was sitting behind the victim, trying to keep the man's head elevated.
The victim, who was reportedly unconscious following the attack, was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment. The woman was reportedly unhurt.
According to family friends, the victim remained hospitalized, and was in and out of consciousness, as of Tuesday.
The date for a preliminary hearing has not yet been set in Red Hill District Court.
