An Accident Waiting to Happen
Written by Larry Roeder, Editor
2015-07-01

As if police didn't have enough to worry about when making split second decisions in dangerous situations, a new product has entered the marketplace that adds another level of danger; handgun-shaped cellphone holders.

For a price between $5 and $10, anyone can buy one for their iPhone and some law enforcement officials have been quoted as saying, "This is not a cool product or a good idea."

Many people, young and not so young, carry their cellphones in their back pocket and when they reach back to pull it out to make a call, it's the same motion as someone pulling a concealed weapon.

In today's video conscious society, someone reaching into their back pocket or into a backpack to pull out their phone in a handgun-shaped holder to start filming a police arrest, or other incident, could lead to a tragedy for the police and themselves.  Instead of filming the incident, they could become part of it.

It is an accident waiting to happen.
